B. Scholze et D. Meier, Characterization of the water-insoluble fraction from pyrolysis oil (pyrolytic lignin). Part I. PY-GC/MS, FTIR, and functional groups, J AN AP PYR, 60(1), 2001, pp. 41-54
Pyrolytic lignins have been obtained from pyrolysis oil as fine homogeneous
powder by a novel precipitation method. The paper presents results obtaine
d for various pyrolytic lignins of pyrolysis oils from different fast pyrol
ysis processes. They were subjected to various physico-chemical characteriz
ation methods. Analysis methods comprise chromatography, spectroscopy and w
et chemical techniques. FTIR data indicate that a changing oxygen content m
ainly effects the intensity of carbonyl absorption bands. Therefore, FTIR a
nalysis is valuable as a fast analytical method to elucidate aging processe
s of pyrolysis oil. Analytical pyrolysis combined with GC/MS, FTIR data, an
d results of functional group analysis show pyrolytic lignin to be similar
to technical lignins. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
