Corrected transposition of the great arteries without associated cardiac an
omalies is a rare cardiac malformation. Few patients with this anomaly surv
ive beyond 50 years of age because of systemic ventricular dysfunction or d
evelopment of AV valvular regurgitation or conduction disturbance. We descr
ibe an autopsied, uncomplicated corrected transposition of the great arteri
es case in which the patient died at 84 years of age. We believe this patie
nt to be the longest surviving corrected transposition of the great arterie
s associated person in the world.
