In the past few decades, the theory of fuzzy sets has matured into a wide-r
anging collection of concepts, models and techniques for dealing with compl
ex phenomena which can hardly be analysed by classical methods based on pro
bability theory and two-valued logic. Electrostatic problems are especially
of the type where the application of fuzzy logic is unquestionably advanta
geous. In the paper, one of the new fields of fuzzy applications is targete
d: industrial and atmospheric electrostatics. The fuzzy applications which
are applied to this field, are fuzzy fault tree analysis, fuzzy automated d
iagnosis and fuzzy risk evaluation. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
