In this technical note, we present the bifurcation analysis of a generalize
d Drucker-Prager formulation. To this end, the elastoplastic localization p
roperties are cast in the form of an elliptical envelope condition in the s
igma (N)- tau (N) coordinates of Otto Mohr, whereby, the tangency condition
of the localization ellipse and the major principal circle determines the
criticality and type of failure mode.
