Vg. Volkov et al., Calculating the optimum shape of a lightguide for collecting light from a fine-grained, large-area scintillator based on a Si photodiode, J OPT TECH, 68(5), 2001, pp. 358-360
This paper discusses the transmission of light by lightguides of complex sh
ape in scintillator-lightguide-photoreceiver detectors. The optimum lightgu
ide design is chosen for use in a fine-grained ZnSe(Te) scintillation detec
tor. It is established that. to use such detectors in the counting regime,
the light output from a large-area photodiode-based scintillator is optimiz
ed by using a transparent lightguide in the form of a wedge on one side sur
face of which the scintillator is deposited. For use in the spectrometric r
egime, it is promising to use a lightguide with a spherical input surface,
which optimizes the homogeneity of the transmittance over the surface of th
e scintillator. (C) 2001 The Optical Society of America.
