D. Mickelat et al., NON-PALPABLE LESIONS OF THE MAMMA - RESUL TS OF SONOGRAPHIC, PREOPERATIVE COLOR MARKING ON THE SKIN, Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, 57(6), 1997, pp. 328-332
68 nonpalpable und sonographically visible lesions of the mammae were
marked preoperatively in 59 patients, The skin over the tumour was col
our-marked with the patient in position for operation after sonographi
c adjustment, The sonographically measured depth of the lesion and its
diameter were noted, All the 68 lesions were completely extirpated in
60 operations, In 91.7% of the operations (55/60) the suspicious focu
s was directly identified intraoperatively and excised with an all-aro
und safety margin of 1 to 2 cm, In 8.3% (5/60) of the surgical interve
ntions it was necessary to re-resect the margin of the resectate due t
o invasive growth, After sonographic localisation, occult intramammary
lesions cannot be marked on the skin noninvasively and at an economic
ally favourable cost for subsequent safe surgical removal.
