Abstract
BACKGROUND: TO examine the relationship between smoking and subjective heal th in Spain. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Data come from the 1993 National Health Survey. Analys es were performed with logistic regression, adjusting for the main confound ing factors. RESULTS: Among those less than 25 years, there is a dose-response relations hip (p = 0.0001) between cigarette consumption and suboptimal health (fair, poor or very poor health). CONCLUSIONS: Smoking control activities should inform on the worse subjecti ve health of young smokers, for whom other effects of tobacco smoking are l ess relevant because they appear to happen in the distant future.
