Abstract
An estimation Iras been,made of the distribution of power (over different m odes) through the guiding region of an optical fiber with an annular core. The general expression for the power in the guiding region is derived tinde r the use of scalar field approximation, and the power pattern is plotted a gainst the dimensionless core parameter for three lowest azimuthal model in dexes. The analysis is rigorous in the sense that no approximation is used to determine the field functions. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
