We have derived thermonuclear (p, gamma) reaction rates in the temperature
range applicable to explosive hydrogen burning for proton-rich nuclei in th
e A = 44 - 63 mass range. The reaction rates are based on large scale shell
model calculations yielding level spectra, proton spectroscopic factors as
well as electromagnetic transition probabilities with potential models sup
plying the necessary proton widths and direct capture components. We compar
e the resulting rates with similar rates based on the statistical model.
