Abstract
We define nuclear halo states and present occurrence conditions as function of nucleon numbers and excitation energy. Conjectured implications in astr ophysics due to the unusual properties are indicated, e.g. the r-process, t he neutron capture rate bridging the gaps at A = 5, 8, the nuclear synthesi s and the triple alpha rate. Few-body techniques seems to be indispensable.
