We have investigated physical properties of R2Re2Si2C (R = Tb and Dy) using
magnetic and heat capacity measurements. The two compounds order antiferro
magnetically with T-N similar to 17 and similar to 12 K for Tb2Re2Si2C and
Dy2Re2Si2C, respectively. The magnetic properties are strongly influenced b
y crystal field effects. In both the compounds, below T-N, magnetic suscept
ibility measured at 0.4 T and magnetization measured as a function of field
at 1.8 and 10.5 K indicate another magnetic transition at low temperatures
. The low-temperature phase of both compounds remains antiferromagnetic. In
Tb2Re2Si2C a ferromagnetic component appears. However, in the low-temperat
ure phase Dy2Re2Si2C has a compensated antiferromagnetic structure. (C) 200
