Approximate optimal design and weight minimization problems are propos
ed, making use of mixed-interpolated finite elements methods. The desi
gn variables - i.e., the thickness of tile plate and tile stiffness of
tile foundation are approximated by piecewise affine functions. The s
olvability of the approximate problems is proved and some convergence
analysis is presented.
