Py. Moalic et al., Development and evaluation of a PCR test for detection and identification of Brachyspira species in pigs faeces., REV MED VET, 152(3), 2001, pp. 247-252
A PCR test for Brachyspira detection and identification was developed. This
test can be applied directly on rectal swabs taken from diarrheic pigs wit
hout culture:. In order to validate each negative result, an amplification
interval control is included in each sample. Results obtained from 87 sampl
es taken from 24 farms were compared to culture and colony identification.
No loss of sensitivity was observed. The main advantage of this test is the
saving of time (up to 5 days) allowing rapid and efficient antibiotic trea
tment.
