The site of alkylation of 1-aryltetrazol-5-ones under conditions of phase-t
ransfer catalysis in the systems liquid-liquid and solid-liquid does not de
pend on the nature of alkylating agent and structure of phase-transfer cata
lyst. Alkylation of 1-phenyltetrazol-5-one with dibromoalkanes provides a c
onvenient route to bis-tetrazoles and 4-bromoalkyl derivatives. The latter
can be used for synthesis of functionally substituted tetrazoles.
