Cationic diphosphine complex [(1,5-COD)Rh(-)R, R-DIOP](+) CF3SO3- was prepa
red by replacement of a chlorine atom in the corresponding chloride complex
. The structure of the complex and some its transformations were investigat
ed by means of P-31 NMR spectroscopy. Asymmetrical hydrogenation on the com
plex of a number of prochiral substrates (alpha -acetamidocinnamic acid, it
s methyl ester, itaconic acid) was studied. The activity of the catalyst is
higher than that of the other analogous cationic rhodium catalysts for hyd
rogenation; the optical yields exceed 90%.
