Abstract
In this paper we review the results of the steady state and transient photo conductivity characteristics of bipyridine-containing poly(p-phenylene-viny lene) derivatives having n=0, 1 and 3 phenylene vinylene subunits separatin g the bipyridylene vinylene skeleton. It is observed that the photo-induced charge carrier generation and transport properties in this system vary sig nificantly with n, with the results revealing the facile electric-field ind uced separation of the electron-hole, (e-h) pairs in poly(p-phenylene-vinyl ene-bipyridylene), n=l, sample relative to n = 0 and n = 3 samples..
