Abstract
We present synthesis and characterization of stilbenes and 4,4 ' -bis(styry l)stilbenes with different electron withdrawing and donating substituents a t the phenylene rings and vinylene units. The photoluminescence and optical absorption data are reported. The UV/VIS and emissions behavior is correla ted with the structural variations of the model compounds, tuning the elect rical and optical properties by introduction of different substituents.
