The synthesis of poly(isothianaphthene methine) has been further explored b
y introducing substituents possessing a liquid crystalline group, such as p
henylcyclohexyl, phenylpyrimidine or biphenyl. The polymers are characteriz
ed by IR, UV-Vis-NIR,H-1- and C-13-NMR spectroscopy. All polymers are solub
le in common organic solvents. They show bandgaps between 1.2 and 1.3 eV an
d electrical conductivities in the range of 10(-4) - 10(-5) S/cm upon iodin
e vapor doping.
