Langmuir-Blodgett films of a poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) precursor wer
e prepared using an amphiphilic precursor, where the counter-ion chloride w
as partially exchanged by a long chain dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) ion. T
hese LB-PPV films are strongly ordered along the dipping direction as demon
strated by linear dichroism experiments using linearly polarized optical ab
sorption and emission. The consequence of this anisotropy is a strong circu
lar dichroism (100 mdeg) in the pi-pi* band and a circular polarization emi
ssion with an asymmetry factor g(e)=0.84.
