Abstract
Using density functional calculations the structure and stability of dimers of quaterthiophene radical cations are studied. Embedding a dimer in a die lectric medium results in stabilizing the dimer, as is observed experimenta lly. Evidence for a weak chemical dimer bond is given. An infinite stack of quaterthiophene cations shows spontaneous dimerization.
