We have focused recent efforts on developing an understanding of how to opt
imise the electrical, spectroscopic, electrochemical and physical propertie
s of poly(3,4-alkyenedioxythiophene) (PXDOT) and poly(3,4-alkylenedioxypyrr
ole) (PXDOP) based conjugated polymers. Here we present the results of the
temperature dependence of the de and microwave conductivity, as well as mag
netic susceptibility and reflectance data, for electrochemically synthesize
d, free standing, PXDOT and PXDOP films doped with different organic anions
. The polymers have properties that are characteristic of disordered materi
als near the insulator-metal transition (IMT). We also investigate the poss
ibility of applying these polymers as the active layer in visible and IR li
ght emissivity control devices.
