P. Klaeboe, INFRARED AND RAMAN-SPECTROSCOPY APPLIED TO CONFORMATIONAL EQUILIBRIA - METHODS AND RECENT RESULTS, Journal of molecular structure, 408, 1997, pp. 81-89
Common methods for conformational studies by vibrational spectroscopy
include identification of band intensities by crystallization at low t
emperatures, intensity Variations at Variable temperatures and dissolu
tion in solvents of different polarity. In addition, matrix isolation
studies, crystallization under high pressure, formation of clathrates,
temperature studies in liquid noble gases and chemometric methods can
be applied. These methods will be briefly discussed and are applied t
o some halomethyl dimethyl halosilanes which are presently being studi
ed. The temperature dependent conformational equilibrium in chlorocycl
ohexane has been tested by chemometrics. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V
