Auger electron spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used
to investigate two electrical steel samples prepared by different decarburi
zation treatments. Oxide layers were found on the surfaces of both samples.
Cross-sectional analysis of the oxide layers was performed to obtain infor
mation about the in-depth distribution of the layers' constituents. Element
s present in the electrical steels in minute concentrations were shown to f
orm compounds in the oxide layers. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All right
