Synthesis of dialkylureas by indirect electrocatalytical carbonylation of aliphatic amines under mild conditions

Abstract
A novel synthesis of several dialkylureas by indirect electrocatalytical ca
rbonylation of corresponding aliphatic amines was carried out at 50 degrees
C and atmospheric pressure with an electrochemically regenerable palladium
(II) as catalyst and copper (II) acetate as cocatalyst with excellent conve
rsion and selectivity. The results show that the main products are dialkylu
reas for the mono - aliphatic amines and isocyanates for the diamines. Solv
ent has a strong impact on the selectivity.
