The inclusion complexation of some dye guest molecules with water - soluble
calix[n] arenesulfonates (n =4,6,8) and alkylated calix[6]arenesulfonates
has been investigated at 25.0 degreesC. It was found that the fluorescence
intensity of dye guests decreases upon the addition of calix[n] arenesulfon
ates. while the alkylated calix[6] arenesulfonate derivatives cause gradual
increases in the fluorescence intensity of dye guest. The phenomena were e
xplained in terms of photophysical behavior. The stability constants of the
resulted complexes were determined via spectrofluorometric titration at 25
.0 degreesC and the molecular recognition behavior was also discussed.
