A total of 200 adult male Egyptian toads (Bufo regularis) captured from Ass
iut locality (Upper Egypt), were surveyed for the testicular infection with
Myxobolus sp. Ten toads (5%) showed various degrees of infectivity detecte
d by means of light and electron microscopy. The significant pathological c
hanges in the testis were observed. Plasmodia of Myxobolus sp. caused atrop
hy of the infected testicular tissue. The infection of the seminiferous tub
ules by the different parasitic stages induced necrobiotic changes in the t
ubular cells, which suggests the Myxobolus sp. is a pathogenic testicular p
arasite of the Egyptian toad, B. regularis.
