Abstract
Ovary maturation and spawning behaviour of the anchovy Engraulis capen sis are discussed. Histological examination of the testicular and ovar ian tissue, together with observations of multiple modes in oocyte siz e frequency and gonadal indices, suggest serial spawning in the specie s. The observed continuous production of spermatozoa in the testes sup ports this finding.
