Abstract
Adults of three species of lanternfish of the genus Symbolophorus occu r along the west and south-east coasts of southern Africa: Symbolophor us boops from the Benguela system and S. barnardi and S. evermanni fro m the Agulhas Current. Information on the distribution and morphometri c features of these three species is provided from ichthyoplankton col lections taken from Namibian and South African waters. The distributio n of a fourth species, S. kreffti, which appears to be associated with the intrusions of warm Angolan waters into the northern Benguela, is also described.
