During a revision of the Liassic foraminifera from Morocco, a new species E
ndotriadella ifranensis n. sp. was identified in samples of both Orbitopsel
la primaeva and Orbitopsella dubari Zones. These species, accurately descri
bed herein, is not only important per se, but also allows a discussion on t
he phylogeny of some post-Palaeozoic foraminiferal lineages, and about even
tual survivals of the suborder Fusulinina, essentially Palaeozoic, during t
he Mesozoic times, at least until the Early Jurassic. The other explanation
consists in convergences, due to the infaunal habitat of this kind of fora
minifer. (C) 2001 Academie des sciences / Editions scientifiques et medical
