The growth and characterisation of electrically tunable resonant-cavit
y enhanced (RCE) photodiodes are described. Tuning is accomplished uti
lising the quantum confined Stark effect in GaAs/AlGaAs multiquantum w
ells. This structure is integrated into an asymmetric Fabry-Perot opti
cal resonator formed by an AlGaAs/GaAs Bragg reflector and the semicon
ductor-air interface.
