It is known that DS/CDMA has extremely good interference; suppression chara
cteristics. However, due to the correlation of the spreading code, interfer
ence occurs and the communication quality is degraded. In order to resolve
this problem, various systems have been proposed that suppress interference
by means of adaptive arrays. In this paper, we propose a system for operat
ing a DCMP adaptive array based on estimation of the array propagation vect
or of the desired signals in the OFDM-CDMA communication system by the ESPR
IT algorithm. In this application, correlation between the arriving waves i
s suppressed by adaptive spatial smoothing using the frequency characterist
ics of the OFDM signals. In order to determine the effectiveness of the pro
posed system, a computer simulation is used for analysis of the fundamental
characteristics and the nature of the mutual coupling between elements. It
is found that the system works well as a DCMP adaptive array and that sepa
rated reception of correlated multiple waves is possible. (C) 2001 Scripta
