Abstract
A mechanical approach to reperfusion using direct coronary angioplasty is n ow an established and effective treatment for acute myocardial infarction, but it is not immediately available at most community hospitals. This artic le will outline the indications for use of reperfusion therapy on patients with AMI, discuss all currently available treatment options, and examine th e potential role of combined pharmacologic and mechanical therapy for reper fusion in AMI.
