Abstract
The labelling pattern arising. from incorporation of [1,2-C-13(2)]acet ate into astellatol, a novel sesterterpenoid fungal metabolite, suppor ts its biosynthesis via cyclisation and subsequent rearrangement of ge ranylfarnesyl pyrophosphate, and allows its relationship to a number o f other fungal sesterterpenoids to be proposed.
