A new 5-HT3 receptor ligand, CP2289, was synthesized and pharmacologic
ally tested. Although CP2289 inhibited the Bezold-Jarisch reflex, it c
ontracted the excised ileal muscle of mice, rats and guinea pigs. This
response may reheat a partial agonist character of CP2289 in the gut.
In vivo antiemetic and gastric emptying tests gave similar results.
