Abstract
Cable will soon offer interactive television services. These will be joined in home networks by telephones, Internet appliances, and consumer electron ic equipment. Middleware makes it possible to develop a large set of applic ations and to deliver them on many different hardware and software platform s. Middleware does this by providing such Web standards as HTML, ECMAScript , and Java to develop and deliver applications.
