Nk. Chopra et N. Chopra, Effect of row spacing and nitrogen level on growth, yield and seed qualityof scented rice (Oryza sativa) under transplanted conditions, I J AGRON, 45(2), 2000, pp. 304-308
A field experiment was Conducted during the rainy season of 1994 and 1995 a
t Karnal, Haryana, to study the effect of row spacing and nitrogen revels o
n growth, seed yield and seed quality of 'Pusa Basmati 1' scented rice (Ory
za sativa L.). Row spacing did not influence yield attributes, seed and str
aw yields. Significant linear increase in seed yield was recorded up to 80-
kg N/ha and thereafter a marginal reduction in seed yield was observed at 1
20 kg N/ha. However, straw yield increased up to the highest level of N. Se
ed quality in terms of germination was neither affected by raw spacing nor
by N revels. The response of seed yield to N levels was quadratic. The maxi
mum response was observed at 40 kg N/ha and thereafter it decreased with th
e increase in N lever. The optimum economic dose of N was worked out to be
98.5 kg/ha with additional profit of Rs 8,075/ha.
