The reaction of the 2,6-bis[(dimethylamino)methyl]phenyllithium with tin(IV
) bromide affords, after recrystallisation from toluene on the air, the org
anotin(IV) compound [SnBr3{2,6-(Me2NCH2)(2)C6H3}(H2O)], 3, in which the N,C
,N-ligand is bounded to Sn atom through the aryl carbon atom and one of the
NMe2 groups only, while the second NMe2 group is protonated by hydrogen fr
om the water molecule. The crystal structure analysis has shown dimeric str
ucture of this compound, with unusually Sn-O-H-Br hydrogen bridges. This co
mpound was characterised by NMR spectroscopy in solution and in the solid s
tate and X-ray structure analysis. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All right
