Abstract
Three new sesquiterpenoids valeriananoids A (1), B (2) and C (3), poss essing an unprecedented sesquiterpene skeleton, have been isolated fro m the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana jatamansi Jones. The structures were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic means and, in the case o f 1, confirmed by X-ray crystallography. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd .
