Abstract
A diffusion model of the kinetic equation for an electron beam incident on a target is proposed. The model is used to obtain an analytical solution to the problem without introducing any empirically adjusted parameters. It is shown that the backscattering coefficients predicted by the proposed model are, at least, as close to experimental values as those given by empirical formulas containing adjustable parameters.
