A model experiment was conducted to investigate the dynamic behavior of a l
iquid sheet under an electric field applied parallel to the flow direction.
It was confirmed that the liquid sheet was changed into columns when the a
pplied voltage exceeded a certain critical value. A model analysis based on
a linear stability theory was then carried out to predict the critical app
lied voltage, and the analytical results were shown to be in good agreement
with the measured values. Further, based on the above-mentioned model desc
ribing the dynamic behavior of the liquid sheet, an analytical model predic
ting the EHD effect on condensation heal transfer for a finned tube is pres
ented. The predicted results are shown to be in good agreement with the exp
erimental data on the flooding angle and the condensation heat transfer coe
fficient for a finned tube under an electric field.
