This paper reports the studies on the properties of heterogeneous anion-exc
hange membranes prepared from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as binder and anion-
exchange resin powder. The effect of variation of ion-exchange resin partic
le size as well as the resin-binder ratio on different mechanical, electroc
hemical and morphological properties of the membranes have also been studie
d. It has been found that by using resins of suitable particle size and loa
ding, it is possible to achieve heterogeneous membranes which are comparabl
e with interpolymer membranes in performance. Moreover, heterogeneous membr
anes are found to have more dimensional stability than interpolymer membran
es. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
