We have measured the magneto-photoluminescence in Cd1-xMnxTe/Cd1-yMgyTe qua
ntum wells in magnetic fields up to 45 T at temperatures 77 and 4.2 K. We o
btained the Zeeman splitting of the heavy-hole exciton as a function of the
well width. From the experimental data, we obtained the effective spin com
ponent and the effective temperature of single quantum wells with different
well thicknesses. Our experimental results suggest that both the effective
spin component and the effective temperature depend on the magnetic layer
thickness. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
