Abstract
We study the stability of the plane free surface of a shallow fluid in a ve rtical vibrated vessel with corrugated bottom. We find that localized stand ing surface waves can be excited under vibration at certain frequencies as a result of combined action of the Faraday instability and the Bragg-like r esonant reflection. We show that the conditions of the excitation of the pl ane surface wave in such vessel change substantially. These changes are not iceable especially in the vessel in the form of two nested cylinders. We no te effect of self-suppression of the Faraday instability in a vessel with a sandy bottom.
