Ji. Yu et al., Cross aldolization between benzaldehyde and n-heptaldehyde to alpha-pentylcinnamaldehyde over calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcites, REACT KIN C, 72(2), 2001, pp. 365-372
Calcined Mg-Al hydrotalcites (CHT) with various Mg/Al atomic ratios were pr
epared and characterized by XRD, BET and TPD of carbon dioxide. The CHT cat
alysts were utilized for the synthesis of alpha -pentylcinnamaldehyde (alph
a -P-c) from benzaldchyde and n-hcptaldehyde in a stirred batch autoclave r
eactor. An increase of Mg/Al atomic ratio of CHT samples results in the app
arent enhancement of catalyst basicity with concomitant decrease of surface
areas. Both the catalytic activity and the alpha -P-c selectivity increase
with the catalyst basicity and the reaction temperature.
