Jl. Fleming et Le. Monda-amaya, Process variables critical for team effectiveness - A Delphi study of wraparound team members, REM SPEC ED, 22(3), 2001, pp. 158-171
Recent school reform movemants emphasize collaborative teaming for the succ
essful inclusion and education of diverse student populations in schools, T
he purpose of this study was to identify and validate a list of critical pr
ocess variables that support team efforts and effectiveness. Wraparound tea
m members from a large midwestern state, identified os experts in teaming,
participated through Delphi procedures in two rounds of response. Twenty no
minated experts rated 109 items across six categories: team goals, team mem
ber roles and team membership, team communication, team cohesion, team logi
stics and team outcomes. Results indicated that items in the categories tea
m outcomes, team goals, and team cohesion were ranked most critical to Team
effectiveness. The final list of critical process variables can be used to
guide community and school-based teams in establishing, monitoring, and ev
aluating their teams.
