The macroscopic and microscopic features of the new species Gautieria inapi
re (Basidiomycota). discovered in an Andean Nothofagus forest in southern C
entral Chile, are described and its taxonomic position and relationships wi
thin the genus and related taxa are discussed. This species with hypogeous
basidiomata is characterized by its capacity to form ectomycorrhiza with No
thofagus pumilio (Poepp. & Endl.) Krasser; by the dark brown peridium +/- p
ersistently enclosing the basidiomata and by the relatively small, longitud
inally costate basidiospores, dimpled by an apical depression.
