Abstract
The correlation spectrum of a symbolic sequence is defined. The harmon ic heights in the spectrum of a nucleotide sequence are calculated rig orously. A model of coding sequences is proposed and the origin of 3-p eriodicity is explained. The possible occurrence of a hidden periodici ty of base correlation with no peak in the spectrum is discussed.
