A novel charge-transfer complex of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) having uracil m
oiety (TTFU), TTFU-TCNQ, was prepared by a cross coupling reaction of Bu3Sn
=TTF and 5-iodouracil using Pd(0) catalyst. The TTFU=TCNQ complex was obtai
ned by the mixing of equal molar quantities of DMF solution of TTFU and TCN
Q. It exhibits a high electrical conductivity as the compressed pellet (rho
(rt) = 9 Omega cm at room temperature) and shows semiconducting behavior (
E-a = 180 meV). From the magnetic susceptibility measurement. TTFU-TCNQ was
found to have spin degrees of freedom, which suggests that it is not a ban
d-type insulator but a Mott-Hubbard insulator.
