A series of single crystals of quasi-one-dimensional Ni-Pd mixed-metal MX-c
hain compounds, Ni1-xPdx(chxn)(2)Cl-3, and mixed-halogen MX-chain compounds
, Ni(chxn)(2)ClyBr1-y(NO3)(2) have been obtained by electrochemical oxidati
on methods. In order to investigate the competition between the electron-co
rrelation in the Ni-III states and the electron-phonon interaction in the P
d-II-Pd-IV states in the Ni-Pd mixed-metal compounds, the IR, Raman spectra
have been measured. These results show that the Pd-II-Pd-IV mixed-valence
states are influenced by Ni-III and gradually approaching to the Pd-III sta
tes with the increase of the Ni-III components. In order to investigate the
effect of bridging halogen, the optical conductivity spectra of Ni(chxn)(2
)ClyBr1-y(NO3)(2) have been measured.
