We conclude that high plasma ANP levels are important markers of HC by indi cating a poor prognosis in unselected patient populations, particularly old er patients. Tailored therapy such as amiodarone to maintain sinus rhythm a s well as anticoagulation to prevent stroke should be considered in patient s with these high levels.
